First Pre-season games of the year!

Buckhurst Hill away (Saturday 17th April):

The first XI started their season away to Essex premier league side Buckhurst Hill. Initially a two day weekend, cut to a one day game due to COVID, proved challenging to raise a side. 8 players drove to Essex, and with 3 players from the opposition 2nd team joining the team, Sandford Bowled first. Rizzy and Thompson opened up, and a run out in the 2nd over removed the hosts pro. Some tight bowling, and a pitch which was unpredictable, helped to remove the hosts for a below par 128 off 36 overs. Nas and Goffe the pick of the bowlers, with 5 wickets between them.

After a short tea break, Sandford got off to a flyer. Russell Beckett, against his former club, smashed his first ball through the covers and we raced to 50-0. The batsman seemed to make the challenging pitch look easier, against a strong Buckhurst bowling attack. Sandford chased their target inside 30 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets, Thompson, Beckett and Herms all chipped in with 30 each, and the only blot on a good bating card was the run out of George Welch (but we will blame the Friday night curry for that!)

A great early fixture, fantastic hosts, cheap beer and a fine win, what more could you want from a pre-season friendly? Onto the village knockout next week!

Bloxham School (Sunday 18th April):

A close game for the 2’s against a well coached Bloxham development team. Bloxham put us in to bowl and a decent bowling display was put on by a very young attack, pick of the bunch was Lucas Fossey with his 4 wickets. But the fielding at times left much to be desired and Bloxham set us a competitive total of 226 to chase in 40 overs. Sandford started with a touch of a wobble which was soon sorted, in no small way by Tom Hill scoring 60 with some strong shots around the park. The chase looked like it was on until a flurry of wickets were lost with Sandford falling 30 runs short.

Overall a good run out for the team with work ons for training but lots of performances to be proud of!
