Congratulations to our Sandford A side who have become champions of division two in the Banbury Indoor Cricket league.
Tuesday 10th December 2019 saw Sandford A beat Hook Norton Renegades by 1 wicket with Max Harris hitting the winning runs with a sublime knock of 48*. The next match between Banbury and Charlbury left the league in the balance. A win for Banbury would have meant they were champions. Luckily for our side, Charlbury came out on top to secure a victory meaning the boys had won their first Indoor Cricket League Title.
Indoor Captain Ben ‘Toey’ Taylor skippered a core side of 7 really well. After losing in the first week against Charlbury, he rallied the team together at the local pub allowing the players to reflect where they had gone wrong. This was a blessing in disguise because the lads learnt what each of their roles were within the team.
Consequently, the team was anchored around the reliable batting of George Welch every game. George Thorne opened up with him and played some great supporting roles. Max Harris and Ben Taylor then provided a free-flowing middle order that produced runs every game. This was followed by unsurprising kamikaze running in the form of Ben Proctor and Lewis Anson to keep the run rate ticking, towards the end of the game. The addition of Ian Reynolds for the last two games lead to him retiring in both innings.
Lewis Anson kept wicket very well every game taking vital stumpings and catches. Fielding was a strong point of everyone in the team. Some tricky catches off the nets were taken calmly by everyone. The bowling of Ian Reynolds, Max Harris, Ben Proctor and Ben Taylor provided a nice mix of options that took 6 wickets most games.
The team are looking forward to playing in division one next year and taking on the first team.
